How to Get The Most Out of Your Social Media – Part 2

Getting the most out of your social media can sound like a challenge, and following these 10 steps might sound intimidating, but with the proper strategy and vision you can create a successful feed in no time. Becoming successful on social media isn’t about working harder, it’s about working better.

6. Follow the right people

Do you follow accounts on Instagram with strategy in mind? There are four separate groups of people you should be keeping tabs on through your social media channels in order to stay in touch with your customers, changing trends, and on top of your Instagram game:

  1. Influencers within your niche
  2. Neighbours/Partners
  3. Brands that inspire you
  4. Your Competitors

7. Set “SMART” Goals

Once you have your profile created and are working on your posts, take a step back and think about what you qualify as success. The three most common goals are:

  • Increasing your follower count
  • Growing Brand awareness
  • Greater Engagement

No matter what your precise goal is, make sure that you keep it in the back of your mind while curating posts and launching promotions. Without a clear goal, your efforts won’t be optimized and what could be a successful campaign may fall short of your goals.

This is a great tool to remember when deciding which goals your business should focus on. SMART stands for, Smart, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. If your goal doesn’t fit into each of those categories, it might be time to rethink it and bring it in tighter in order to make sure it is something not only possible of achieving, but will be worth your time and bring benefit to you and your business.

An example of one of these goals is: “I want to increase my Instagram following by 30% over the next two months”.

Smart – You are working towards a specific goal (increasing your following by 30%).

Measurable – you can easily track your Instagram following using various apps or Instagram analytics.

Attainable – Are you prepared to put in the work? Creating a strategy is one thing, but following through with it is another. To launch a social media campaign, the most important thing to remember is you need to go all-in. The outcome you achieve will be directly related to the time and effort that you put into it.

Realistic – Ask yourself, is the niche actually large enough to achieve the numbers you are looking for? While it’s always hard to know for sure if you will hit your goals, you can look at your Instagram or your competitors feeds to see if the level of engagement you are hoping for makes sense when compared with your history.

Timely – No, you probably won’t get 1 Million followers overnight, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get goals that might be hard to reach. Setting up a timeline will help you understand the tasks you need to do and how long it will take to get them done. In this case, two months seems like a reasonable amount of time to increase your following.

8. Focus on Aesthetic

One of the keys to creating a social media channel that engages your followers is to make it eye-catching. This is where you may need to do some research on how to take product photos or create a theme. It is easy to point and shoot using your phone every day with whichever product you are focusing on at the time, but strategically creating a content calendar will help create consistency, making your brand more recognizable.

9. Host a Giveaway

Instagram giveaways are a cost effective and simple way to help you grow. Go back to tip #7 and think about what your goals are for the giveaway. Then all you need to do is pick a relevant prize and get sharing. It can be as simple as tagging a friend, or uploading a photo and tagging your business. 10. Actively Engage Your Audience

While we know that content is the most important part of Instagram marketing, alone it isn’t enough to connect with people and foster relationships. Engaging with your audience can be as simple as liking photos, commenting on posts, or showing appreciation for customers.
